Where is the sense of community?

Maybe I'm spoiled by the sense of family I was being treated to in Guiding Light's final weeks, but I have to ask. Where is the sense of community on ATWT?

At Holden's funeral, where was everybody? Granted we the audience knew he wasn't dead, but why was only his family there? Where were his friends? Where was the rest of the cast?

Don't get me started on Barbara/Kim/Bob! First there was no acknowledgement on Barbara's part in regards to Kim's heart attack. She didn't even visit her in the hospital. Now Bob is in the hospital and still nothing. Instead Barbara and Margo are arguing at the police station about James Stenbeck. Not once in that argument did Kim or Bob's name come up.

I agree, Marc. The show has improved in some areas, but does anyone other than Luke and Noah even know who Mason is? The biggest effot to connect character are the former GH stars and that seems like a nod to another show more than to the longtime fans of ATWT.

GL was brilliant and building that sense of community in recent months. I hope ATWT doesn't wait until it's too late to make Oakdale feel like a town where everyone knows each other again.

I agree that the show has definitely improved, I'm not nearly as bored as I used to be, but the disconnects are still there and have always bothered me. I've been traveling around the country for a month (Canada and U.S.) and have only picked up bits and pieces, but I still haven't been able to figure out what happened to Bob and Kim. Last I knew, he was in the hospital with a tumor I think. Don't know what happened there, don't know if the issues were resolved with Ali/Tom/Bob/Kim, it's almost like that part never even happened. Still, at least the improvements are visible and I hope that part keeps going.

There are improvements but I think you both nailed it. Does anyone in Oakdale even know Mason other than Luke and Noah? Why bring on characters that only 2 or 3 people will know?

Barbara and Lisa being a huge part of the Bob and Kim story and really featuring that story more would have been a huge success in my opinion.

Maybe there should be fewer characters. I would just like it to feel like everyone knows each other and has some type of relationship.
